David Meredith - Artist
What inspires you in your art?
Wildlife in general, love the way nature interacts with it's environment
What medium do you work in?
Bronze
What are you looking forward to at Make it Up North?
Sales, hopefully!...er, i mean discussing my work with the good people of York!
What work are you showing at the event?
Various of my small to medium peices.
Have you any exciting news to share?
Working on a very large piece, 3m tall, called Balios, as a private commission
If you could sit in a room with any artist….who would it be and what would you ask them?
Tracey Emin, i'd ask her how she got away with being so sucessful whilst having no real talent art?...then leg it!!
... in truth i don't really have any questions, most artists do what they do because they enjoy it, no different to myself, the rest is just hype
Name your favourite quote/or philosophy to life?
"Don't worry, be happy"
If money was no object what piece of work would you create?
A huge realistic sculpture to rival the colossus, I think most really big sculptures in the uk are pretty lame, local councils just go for modern art that no body understands or likes ( the angel of the north is a good exception), they just haven't got a clue!.
The americans have the right attitude to large sculpture, it's everywhere, check out the huge sculpture of crazy horse on google, it's being carved out of a mountain and mount Rushmore fits into its head!. Ok, we don't need to go that big. China are starting to follow suite I love the horses in Kangbashi.
David Meredith will be showing his work at Make it Up North on the 5th and 6th of October at The Guildhall in York.
Times for the event: Saturday 5th 10 - 6pm
Sunday 6th 10 - 4pm
