FIONA RUTHERFORD TEXTILE ARTIST www.rutherfordtextileart.com
Fiona Rutherford works from her studio in the vibrant
riverside creative area close to the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne.
She uses the historical Gobelins technique to create woven
tapestries for contemporary interiors. Using mainly cotton and linen yarns she
weaves her designs by hand at an upright frame loom.
A vivid colour palette and simple imagery combine to
create a visual language that is distinctively her own. Fiona’s tapestries are
highly narrative, infused with stories, poems and music drawn from everyday
life. They contain
simple abstract imagery combined with a love of colour that stems from her
early childhood years in India.
Fiona has exhibited
her work widely in the UK as well as Europe, Australia, Japan and America and
she undertakes private and public commissions. Her work is held in major public
collections including the V&A Museum, London.
