Priscilla Jones - Textile Installation Artist

My current practice explores the concept of identity, memory and the translucency of time. Each piece is an example that has been manipulated and reworked through processes of embellishment that include paint, collage, and stitch.  Assembled together, often familiar materials and objects produce the field on which I develop a visual narrative that provokes the viewer to their own semantic exploration. The work also resonates with us as emotionally; we recognize and react to the familiar, remembered, and implied links to things past. The associations prompted with the nostalgia can be both comforting and provocative; we cannot fail to consider our relationship to the pieces through their powerful impact – these are evocative pieces - and its relationship to worlds past and present. Haunting, evocative, disturbing, nostalgic or distorted, memories are created in the subconscious and through the pieces I create I want to awaken the subconscious.

What inspires you in your art?
The beauty in the ordinary and mundane. Paint peeling on a wall or finding a fragment of old lino in a skip!
